Since yesterday was scheduled to be an extended trip, and I’m working out of days to fulfill the Strava climbing problem, I made a decision to attempt for 1000 m of climbing in a day. Mountain runners name this a “vertical Okay”. I selected the most important climb in our space, as much as Henry Coe state Park, about 16 miles of climbing out East Dunne Ave. The final time I did this on a recumbent was most likely over 30 years in the past. I had no electrical help for that one, and climbing the final steep stretch generally known as “the wall” required pulling up on my clipped-in footwear on the pedals. I made it, however ended up with a nasty shin overuse harm that took a few years to go away. I hoped to keep away from that this time: No clipped-in footwear however electrical help would. I made it nearly to “the wall” however was working low on battery. I needed to go away sufficient in reserve to stored house as a result of there was nonetheless some climbing on the way in which again.
So I got here up wanting Henry Coe, however threw in some hills on the West Morgan Hill aspect to get sufficient climbing. Right here is the trip abstract from Strava. It’s the 1008 m climbing that I wanted.
That is the beginning of the climbing, E. Dunne Ave in Morgan Hill. From right here the hill up forward appears to be like difficult, however it’s just a bit blip in comparison with the hills going as much as Coe.Excessive of the East Dunne climb out of Morgan Hill. You may see the true goal now within the distance, at about 800 m.Crossing the outdated bridge over Coyote Creek (which feeds Anderson reservoir)Little or no water left within the reservoir. It has been drained as a result of the Dam must be changed for seismic causesThe climbing begins in earnest. There are countless switchbacks like this oneThat is the house stretch, roughly the place I needed to flip againPlenty of killer views through the descentThat is the final of the climb on the again aspect of East Dunne ave. This home is the sign the climbing is nearly overExtra good views descending E. DunneThe video recorded that I stated “Oh, I made it!” after I rounded this nook. Sufficient battery to get me house and executed climbing!
